11.11.16 – rom 7:38

I think we can all relate to studying a subject out of expectation. For the most part that describes all of my school years. We can learn things by reading and studying, that doesn’t mean we have a love for or a passion to do them. Proverbs speaks to this a lot. The author assumes we have the knowledge to do what’s right thus he speaks to wisdom, the application of learned knowledge.
In one of his most well know writings (Rom 7) Paul also speaks to this. He states that it had been proven that simply knowing the law was never enough to keep man from sinning. To a certain degree it made man more aware of the boundaries he was not to cross, so guess what we did? Simply knowing what we are not to do isn’t really a motivation not to do it. Have you exceeded the speed limit lately? Guilty!!!!
In order for us to move away from sin we must first move closer to Jesus. Only through his love and grace are we moved to leave our old self and habits behind. As we begin the process and enter into a relationship with Jesus, sin begins to fade from our lives and we can then live a life of true freedom. Romans 7:18 – For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out.
